If you live in the Denver Metro area, chances are you’ve heard of Tony’s Market. Since the opening if its first store in 1978, Tony’s has become something of an American institution in our great state. For Closet Factory CEO, Mark Lestikow and his family, who lived just blocks away from the original Tony’s, it became something of a tradition.
It is the association with this chain of stores that inspired Mark to have a dream. An avid cyclist and lover of good food, he wanted to arrange a bike tour that hit all the locations of Tony’s Market and at each, sample some of the fantastic cuisine options that the stores have to offer. With a little luck and a chance meeting last year through the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, Mark worked with the great PR Director at Tony’s, Lynnea Louison, to make his dream a reality. On a bright October morning, nearly 80 riders gathered at the store on the corner of 9th and Broadway to begin their journey. What ensued was a beautiful day of cycling, food, fun and friends. Each store expressed the excellent hospitality that makes Tony’s unique by welcoming the riders with delicious food, energy drinks and genuine warmth.
Well, folks, it’s that time again, and the planners of the Tony’s-to-Tony’s Ride have had a whole year to figure out how we can top last year’s ride. Closet Factory is so excited to be back as a sponsor, as are Tony’s and lots of other great companies!
This year’s expedition will take place on October 2nd (October 9th is the back-up date if we run into some of that unpredictable Colorado weather) and will again begin at the Broadway location. There will be two waves of riders; the first will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the second at 8:15 a.m. The cost is $40 per rider and includes all the SAG stops, goodie bags, and an Italian luncheon at the end.
Now, for the exciting additions and changes to this year’s ride. Susie Wargin of 9News and Wacky W has agreed to be the honorary ride leader this year; we feel so blessed to have such a local celebrity at the head of our ride!
A charitable element has also been added to this year’s ride. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the purchase of bicycles for underprivileged youth in inner city Denver, which will be distributed through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Denver. There will also be a used bicycle drive, all of which will be donated to Open Doors Gang Youth Prevention, a program whose main goal is to prevent an increase in gang recruitment activity and gang-related violence by giving kids a safe place and alternate activities to fill their time.
So, sign up now for a fun day of beautiful scenery, great food, and a wonderful cause! Visit http://www.e-store-tonysmarket.com/tonystotonysbikeride.aspx for more information and to register. Hurry, though, this ride tends to fill up quickly!
